FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is coaching?

WHAT IS COACHING?

Founded on the principle that everyone has answers in themselves, coaching helps access those answers and personal truths. It is an inquiry based conversation - asking you questions to expand your thinking and support you to see things from different points of view. Coaching helps you focus on solutions that will help you move forward and towards your goals.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COACHING AND THERAPY?

Both specialties require specialized training. A therapist focuses on the past.  Coaches focus on the future, help you learn how to move past challenges, support you to discover your values, strengths, & passions and clarify your mission in life.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COACHING AND CONSULTING?

A consultant is an expert in a specific industry. Consultants generally suggest strategies & programs. A coach approach is inquiry based, to help you discover your own authentic wisdom.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COACHING AND MENTORING?

Both are there to support you to achieve your goals. A mentor generally talks to you and generally explains how they achieved a specific result. A coach talks with you to support you to discover a path of your own.

Why coaching?

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF COACHING?

Coaching will help you

  • achieve more than you would on your own

  • achieve goals more quickly

  • overcome limited thinking

  • find ways around obstacles and challenges

  • increase your clarity & confidence in yourself and the choices you make

  • connect with deeper meaning

  • learn more about how you work and how to work even better, and

  • support you to maintain focus, take action, and remain accountable to your most important goals.

WHAT RESULTS CAN I EXPECT?

Results are dependent on you and your commitment to follow through on your goals, to the coaching program, to the decisions, and to the actions that you choose. My role is to help uncover blind-spots, unhelpful thinking, and support you to identify solutions to challenges you face. Your role is to take action.

WHAT KIND OF CHALLENGES CAN I EXPECT?

While I create a space and focus our conversations to support you to achieve what matters most, you are in charge of your life, career, projects and even the conversation agenda. The responsibility for taking actions to achieve success is yours – and choosing to work with a coach is a true demonstration of your commitment to yourself. Coaching is a non-biased, non-judgmental space and if there are challenges, including facing discomfort, we will uncover them and identify solutions to move past them.

Who do you work with?

WHO DO YOU WORK WITH?

My clients are not interested in being average. They know that there are more adventures in life and at work, and they are ready to take them on. They come from all fields and all stages of life – young professionals with a specific long term goal, midlife individuals who are ready to get out of the comfort zone, and entrepreneurs looking to take an important step forward.

They call me because, like you, they know they are capable to take on a challenge, and they know there is more to life. They are frustrated in where they are now and are looking for greater fulfillment. Often they feel like their life or career has stalled, and intuitively they know they have been settling for less, and know they need a little push to continue to find that growth. My clients know that the best life for them means a balance of work and pleasure, and they want enough financial success to support their lives in a meaningful, uncompromising way.

WHO NEEDS A COACH?

Anyone wanting to take their life to a new level, who feel stuck, or who need clarity about where they are going in life! People from all walks of life find coaching helpful - from Fortune 500 executives, to athletes, to everyday individuals. Clients often need an unbiased, supportive thinking partner.

A big misunderstanding is that coaches are for people with problems.  Everyone faces challenges. And coaching is valued most by the highest performers - people at the top of their game. They understand that they will get further faster with support, accountability, and an unbiased and supportive partner. Clients report enjoying the growth and learning from coaching. People who work with coaches are often recognizable because they seem to make significant changes overnight.

How does it work?

Why now?

HOW DOES COACHING WORK?

I coach my clients via telephone or video conference. Most people progress faster with momentum achieved by meeting consistently 2-3 times per month.  Most sessions are up to 1 hour, however I also offer optional longer sessions which, while has a cost to it, can really jump start your transformation.

HOW LONG ARE YOUR CONTRACTS?

Coaching can be effective for short term change, but many clients see coaching as the key to excelling in performance, achievement, learning and enjoyment. Many continue for years. I ask my clients to commit to a minimum of 3 months.

HOW DO I CHOOSE A COACH?

Working with any helping professional is a personal choice. Contact the one that interests you, get to know them and find out what they offer. Make sure you find someone you feel comfortable sharing your thoughts and ideas with. I schedule a 1 hour conversation before determining if we are a good fit.

HOW IMPORTANT IS CREDENTIALING?

Ensure that your coach is either certified by the International coach federation (ICF) or is working towards certification. People can call themselves a coach without any formal training. The ICF independently certifies coaches according to specific and stringent guidelines.

HOW DO YOU MANAGE CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION?

As a member of the International Coach Federation, I pledge to maintain absolute confidentiality of all information shared during our discussions. I do not talk about my clients.

WHY NOW?

If you are thinking about coaching, you probably want to see some important parts of your life improve. As the proverb says, the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now. Whatever seeds you plant today will grow. So why not work with a coach who can help you to get super clear on what you want to achieve, increase your confidence faster than you would on your own, and provide unbiased support and perspective to you.
